HARRIES, Alec Howell. Pte 56138 19th Btn Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment).
Alec was born in Carlton in Cleveland on 29 November 1894 to Sidney Howell Harries, an elementary schoolmaster at Carlton and Faceby Schools, aged 36 and Annie Eliza Harries (nee Nelson) aged 33. He had sisters Mary Howell aged 8 and Ella aged 2, brothers Thomas Nelson aged 6 and Harold Pembroke aged 4 plus nephews Leonard and Roland Sutcliffe aged 14 and 13. In 1901 the family was living in Carlton Grange and Alec was joined by sistes Phylis born in 1898 and Joyce Mabyn in 1899. Joyce died in the 1901. By 1911, two additional children had been born, Doreen then aged 7 and Dudley aged 5. Alec is not registered with a profession and therefore could be travelling to Yarm Grammar School.
